Anders Hald
Guest photographer Sunday August 15th
Danish photographer Anders Hald has achieved international acclaim for his work with children, and his work with both Danish and international brands have won him many awards. Most recently he has been included in Lürzer’s Archive “200 best Ad Photographers World Wide 2010/11″.
Although at the cutting edge of children’s fashion photography, Anders’ work relies very little on digital postproduction, and far more on getting great performances from the children. “If the children in the images look sincere and real, the images will work. Everyone hates a fake smile”.
“In my work I always try to create images that will ignite the ‘viewers’ imagination, I aim to touch on emotions that represent the values that the parents will aspire to, on behalf of their kids. Depending on the brand it could be nostalgic longing, organic and healthy, luxurious and fun, comfort or perhaps practicality. No brand can be everything to anyone, I think it is important for the client to identify the core quality of their brand, and be the very best of that kind”.
Anders has worked for very diverse brands, shooting both shoes, fashion, children’s toys and lifestyle campaigns. “When working with kids it is all about planning. Kids are kids, and by nature unpredictable.
The trick is to know how to plan a shoot so that you can get the images the client needs, on time, within budget, and still allow room for kids having meltdowns, getting tired or just having a bad day. It’s really down to experience, knowing the different age groups, and being able to bond with the kids in very little time. Kids who are bored or uncomfortable, make for really bad models, so it’s important that the kids feel good on a shoot. I always try to plan the shoot around the kids, that tends to give the best results and the most useable images.”

Ditte Capion
Guest photographer Friday August 13 th
Ditte has a background within portrait and fashion photography in the, where she has made photo series for Danish magazines and brands such as IN, Bazar, Femina, Where2Go, Levis, Edith&Ella, CCDK, Designers Remix & By Groth and portrayed many celebriies such as Mads Mikkelsen & Iben Hjele. Ditte is a well known face in Denmark, since she won the Danish version of ‘Model in one day’ where she as a photographer was scouting for new models.
Ditte has recently begun to do fashion photographs of children, and is driven by a great curiosity within this niche. “My experience from the fashion series with adults, combined with my patience is a fantastic match to create unique images of children” says Ditte when she enthusiastically tells about the new world of child pictures she has entered.
An image with expression
In all her pictures there is a clear common thread – the pictures all express something although it’s ‘only’ fashion.
According to Ditte you will not get a more real expression than what you find in children. “What is more expressive than children’s innocent and immediate expressions? It’s like Kinder Eggs … you never know quite what you get, and that what I like’.
In the pictures Ditte captures the children’s natural play while modeling, which gives a stronger expression than adults acting as models and assuming a role.
Ditte describes himself as a playful creature who is ready for adventure and will eat the magic bullets which are served in life – and precisely this hunger for adventure has just led to a spread in an international childrens magazine. Ditte, during a photo shoot with the chief designer Anne Katrine Lemvigh Montag (Mini A Overture) to the German magazine LUNA, was asked to do a children’s series with fashion images for the magazine. And the result was stunning, and immediately booked for the magazine.

Timm Vladimir
Guest photographer thursday August 12th
Timm Vladimir is not a traditional children’s photographer, but on his many travels around the world, children have always been one of his favorite motifs. Around the world, he has learned to meet children at eye level and to capture their expressions in a way that goes straight to the heart. Timm also takes studio portraits of both famous and unknown actors, businessmen, musicians and dancers.
His experiences, from both travel and studio photos, will be combined in his work at CPH kids and bring a new dimension to fashion images with children. For whether you are in a studio with controllable lighting and professional models, or whether you stand at a market in 45-degree heat in Costa Rica, it is still the moment, the feeling and the emotions you want capture to frame the picture.
